The House

Distinct accommodations for contemporary tourism

Located in Resende, on the Douro River’s south margin, Casa Nova Agritourism is a unique and original project, combining modernist architecture with a diversity of sublime services expected from high-quality Agrotourism.

Our mission is to ensure an unforgettable experience accentuated by the region’s best features, including gastronomy and well-being.

Casa Nova Agritourism is much more than mere Agritourism, it is a unique property where human endeavours have evolved in harmony with Mother Nature. The perfect choice for a short getaway.

History

From the 16th century to the World

Casa Nova, or Casa da Obra, is a historical infrastructure dating back to the late 16th century and early 17th century when the Jesuit Order (better known as the Society of Jesus) established a house here that became known as “Retiro dos Jesuítas” (Jesuit Retreat).

Activities and Well-being

Casa Nova Agritourism is a small landmark nestled in dynamic setting.

The property boasts excellent sunlight that nurtures its lush vegetation and has mineral water throughout the year.

As avid nature lovers, we want to showcase the diversity, quality and flavours of our organic fruits freshly picked for you.

We have a wide variety of trees producing fruits and nuts, such as pistachios (which belong to the Anacardiaceae species), exotic trees and Actinidia (kiwi plants).

We invite our guests to also visit our organic vegetable garden where we cultivate a large variety of aromatic plants and various types of natural and fragrance teas, according to the season of the year.

All these features contribute to a highly satisfactory and rewarding visit.

Tapas and Bar

Amora Bar

The fireplace as it's origin

The fireplace in the corner was a source of comfort and warmth greatly appreciated by the house’s residents in former times.

This area was renovated and transformed into a very interesting and comfortable bar with an innovative ceiling design. We endeavour to maximise the use all products grown at Casa Nova, thereby ensuring sustainability and minimising ecological impacts. Any products we cannot cultivate are purchased from regional suppliers to foster local development and empowerment.

Janela bar

Faithful to it's essence

It took one year of work to create this bar, an area in which grain was stored in days gone by. We highlighted its former crucial role through a bold renovation and redesign, including the installation of a large window accentuating the rusticity of exotic wood combined with modern cork. Janela Bar is perfect for peaceful relaxation with a view of the mountain dotted by clusters of the famous cherry trees.

A house full of stories and memories that are still being built.

Casa Nova Agritourism integrates contemporary decoration with its natural and harmonious style. Here, guests get to experience the ambience of a past era whilst being pampered by modern amenities and beautiful views of orchards and gardens. All of this with a backdrop of the Douro Valley’s characteristic mountainous relief.
